I really enjoyed last week’s post by Marcell Almeida about product roadmaps, featuring a fantastic diagram by Pavel Samsonov:
Visuals are a powerful way to communicate concepts and often help us understand ideas more deeply.
Inspired by that diagram, I decided to expand it by adding a 4th type of roadmap, which I call the “Vision-driven strategic roadmap”:
“We know where we are today, and with a clear product vision and strategy, we can filter and prioritize paths. This context provides clarity on what to focus on and what to discard along the way.”
I hope this addition helps demonstrate just how essential a product vision is to guide decisions and make our roadmaps truly impactful.
Do you have a product vision? Do you use it to guide your roadmap decisions?
I’ve been helping companies and their leaders (CPOs, heads of product, CTOs, CEOs, tech founders, and heads of digital transformation) bridge the gap between business and technology through workshops, coaching, and advisory services on product management and digital transformation.
